Here’s the latest on what’s happening in and around the ESD:

Professional Development

One of the items that rose to the top of the list in our Agency Culture Initiative was enhanced PD opportunities. Cabinet has spent some time talking about how to ensure equal opportunities for PD across departments – and the plans that need to be crafted to guide this effort. Cabinet agreed this week that we would allot some agency funds (amount has not yet been set) to sponsor a couple of agency-wide trainings next year. Additional funding will be available for specific department training upon submitting PD plans to Cabinet for review and approval. Watch for more information to come on these opportunities.

Pot hole and roofing repairs top list of priority maintenance needs

As the “landlord” of a five-building campus, a steady stream of maintenance needs is not uncommon! Of immediate concern are some roofing repairs and pot holes in the parking lot that will be addressed this summer. We’re also working on repairing and upgrading signage around the campus. Lastly we’ll work on rescheduling a parking study to identify ways to add spaces in our current lots.

Where in the World is Cabinet? Just on the other side of the state!

Cabinet members are MIA Thursday and Friday. It’s because we are all in Spokane presenting to our colleagues from around the state who are also members of the Washington State Leadership Academy (WSLA). Click here to see our presentation handout that details our Problem of Practice (POP), our Theory of Action and the exciting project we plan to pilot next year as part of this work. We’re excited to present our work to other members of WSLA.

It’s the 50th Anniversary of ESDs! (In 2019, that is)

ESD 112 is the host of the 2019 AESD Conference, scheduled for April 2019 at the Skamania Lodge. We are in the process of forming a conference planning committee to assist in planning and executing this 50-year celebratory event. Board members Ann Campbell and Rainer Houser will participate on the planning committee. The last time we hosted this conference was in 2010. A lot of work BUT this will also be a very fulfilling and exciting adventure!
