Lisa Birney is a Special Education Teacher in the Stevenson-Carson School District.

How long have you worked for ESD 112 and what does your job entail?
I was hired with the ESD in March for the 2017-2018 school year.  I am the Special Education Life Skills teacher at Stevenson High School and Wind River Middle School.

What do you like best about your job?
I love working with students and getting to know who they are.

What do you find most challenging about your job?
The most challenging thing about my job is making sure I’ve turned in all the correct documents on time to the right person.  😀

Single? Married? Kids? Pets?
I am married with two Siberian Huskies.

What do you enjoy doing with your free time?
I love to exercise and be outdoors.  But I also enjoy spending lots of hours on the couch.

What animal best represents you and why?
A husky.  They’re always spazzy and full of energy.  And they’re always smiling, unless they’re thinking: “really.”

If you could master one skill you don’t have right now, what would it be?
I would master the art of being a samurai.

If you could play one instrument you aren’t able to now, what would it be and why?
Ukulele…I just bought one!

Would you rather live in the city or the woods? Why?
I would rather live in the woods.  I grew up in Los Angeles, and I am just done with the city traffic, pollution, etc.  I love the peacefulness of the woods.

If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to?
Alice

What did you want to be when you were little?
A teacher 🙂

What future events are you looking forward to?
My husband and I broke ground yesterday.  I am looking forward to a brand new house!
