The ESD’s Administrative Assistant Leadership Team (AALT) hosted executive and administrative assistants from 13 school districts across the region last Thursday, October 24, for a professional development luncheon and networking event. Also in attendance were ESD 112 Superintendent Tim Merlino and Assistant Superintendent for School and Agency Operations Loy Dale, who is the AALT’s Cabinet liaison. The main topic of discussion was Safety and Situational Awareness, led by Shane Gardner, Director of Safety and Security for Evergreen Public Schools. Gardner often provides safety trainings to school district staff and emphasizes personal wellbeing along with school and student safety, reminding everyone that one of the most helpful things they can do in a stressful or uncomfortable situation is to remember to breathe in order to stay calm.

School district executive and administrative assistants have been gathering for the annual luncheon for more than ten years, and the event is valued as an opportunity to share best practices with individuals in similar positions and get to know their counterparts in other school districts.
