Nicole Calvert is a Secretary in the Prevention and Youth Services department.

How long have you worked for ESD 112 and what does your job entail?

I have been with ESD 112 for about a year as a Prevention and Youth Services Secretary. I am at the front desk of the 2200 Building, so I answer the phone calls and greet/direct guests. In addition, I assist such programs as Connect 2 Careers, SMART, PREVENT! Coalition, and Threat Assessment.

What do you like best about your job?

I enjoy seeing participates come in excited because they earned their GED, CNA, and/or got a job. It’s rewarding to see that the work we all do makes a difference in people’s lives.

What do you find most challenging about your job?

I’m new to the educational sector, so account codes and grants were all new to me. I have a supportive team though that have assisted when needed. Plus the accounting department have been helpful with training and questions, so it hasn’t really been that “challenging.”

Single? Married? Kids? Pets?

It’s just me, myself, and I. “I’m single, footloose and fancy free.”

What do you enjoy doing with your free time?

During the week, you will find me walking on my lunch break down at the Burnt Bridge Creek trail. I LOVE nature and the outdoors, so I camp, hike, and snowshoe. I hike every weekend all over both sides of the Gorge, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, and the Coast. In addition, I do races. Last year I did 20 5ks, 7k, 8k, and 3 10ks. This year my goal is to do at least one 10k every month. I am well on track with 2 5ks, 10k, Quarter Marathon, 7 miler, and a 12k (my longest so far)!

What’s your favorite ESD memory?

The Hootenanny was a lot of fun! I loved dressing up with my team and seeing everyone else dressed up. Oh and the yummy food was nice!

What animal best represents you and why?

Wolf. I’m loyal, devoted, social, and passionate.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Christmas is my favorite holiday for several reasons. It is the season of giving and I love to give and see the cheer it brings. I love going to the Zoo Lights, The Grotto, PIR, and other festive activities. Christmas movies are my favorite, especially Elf!

“I just like to smile, smiling’s my favorite.”

What future events are you looking forward to?

I am looking forward to summiting Mt. St. Helens on Labor Day this year with my best friend and sister! In preparation for this I will be being more difficult hikes that have been on my list as well.
