Members of a local social media group known as the SEWcial Distance Club recently sewed and donated 1,500 cloth masks to ESD 112 for its employees and those served by the agency to use.
The group was created in April by Barbara Rogers and Kristyn Morgan to help facilitate the making and distribution of homemade face masks in the community.
“So much of what’s going on in our world right now feels out of control, but this is one small way I can help,” group member Amber Wright told The Columbian Newspaper.
Since the group’s creation four months ago, it has amassed more than 560 members on its Facebook page and donated some 30,000 masks to more than 100 local organizations.
“This donation will go a long way in providing washable, reusable masks not only to our staff, but to the students and families we serve, as we work together as a community to combat COVID-19,” said Marnie Allen, assistant superintendent, Human Resources & Legal Services at ESD 112. “We are so appreciative of the generosity and thoughtfulness from the SEWcial Distance Club and its members.”
ESD 112 leaders are distributing masks to staff in their departments, so employees who would like a mask should contact their cabinet member.
