Self Defense Class

January Monthly Movement Break: Self-Defense with Malena Goerl

Monday, January 27, 2:00pm, Klickitat/ Skamania Rooms

The Importance of Self-Defense

January is Personal Self-Defense Awareness month! Self-defense is an essential life skill that empowers individuals to protect themselves and others in potentially dangerous situations. Beyond physical techniques, it fosters confidence, situational awareness, and quick decision-making under pressure. Learning self-defense can also reduce anxiety by giving you tools to feel safer in your daily life. Join us as we learn the basics of self-defense from Malena Goerl, ESD 112 Communications Manager, who studied self-defense techniques for five years and has a Green Belt in Krav Maga. Hearts of Affirmation in the Break Room

It has become a tradition to decorate the break room with hearts-of-affirmation during the month of February. The hearts will go up on Monday, February 3rd and remain up through the month of February. Please stop by the breakroom for some positivity, and you can even add your own affirmation to a heart and post it in the breakroom. Just look out for the table with blank hearts and pens!

Go Red for Women

American Heart Month & National Wear Red Day

Friday, February 7

Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women, killing more women than all forms of cancer combined? Or that most cardiac and stroke events can be prevented through education and lifestyle changes? The American Heart Association’s  Go Red for Women movement was launched in 2004 with the goal of raising awareness for cardiovascular disease in women. It is also a great reminder to be active and focus on keeping your heart healthy! We invite you to join us and wear red on Friday, February 7th to support awareness of cardiovascular disease.

Take photos of your team wearing red and send them to bewell@esd112.org – we’d love to share them! And, if you’d like, feel free to include a description of who you are wearing red for.

The American Heart Association has many great resources on things you can do to prevent cardiovascular disease. The topics listed below are just some of the many you can find on their website:

Through gentle movements and focused breathing, yoga helps reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve circulation—all essential for maintaining a healthy heart. By promoting mindfulness and relaxation, yoga supports the heart both physically and emotionally, making it a powerful practice for reducing the risk of heart disease and enhancing cardiovascular wellness.
