And the 2019 Spirit of ESD Awards go to…

Field staff:

Helen Stout,
Intervention Specialist, Quest Academy

“Helen’s customer service skills are exemplary. She is one of the friendliest people I know and always has a smile on her face when she arrives to work. She cares so deeply for all the students at Quest and for staff here as well. Helen does such a beautiful job in communicating, not only with our students, but with the parents as well. To watch her sit in a meeting and speak with such empathy and love is so important for our parents to hear. When Helen is working with students she is focused and gives 100% of her attention.”

Main campus:

Deanna Doerk,
Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, B-3

“I feel like Deanna is our team mascot. She perfectly exemplifies the type of person you need to be to be an infant/toddler special education teacher. She is kind and understanding, flexible but strong, she exudes confidence even if she doesn’t think so, and she wants what is best for all, not just one. She executes her responsibilities to the team very well while maintaining a positive attitude and being accessible to support others. She is responsive when a team member brings up a general concern or worry and puts actions into place to better meet the needs of individuals who are feeling like they need more support.”
