Everyone knows that the holidays can be overwhelming – especially when trying to stay ‘green.’ Below are some eco-friendly tips to have a cheerful holiday and clean conscience ( < see what I did there? 😉 ).

Use eco-friendly wrapping

  • Fabric shopping or gift bags
  • Wrap boxes in fabric: size tips, more size tips
    • Blouse box = 23.5″ square of fabric
    • Shirt box = 31″ square of fabric
    • Robe box = 34″ square of fabric
  • Use recyclable wrapping paper – do the scrunch test!
  • Reuse boxes, gift bags, wrapping/tissue paper, ribbons, packing peanuts, bubble wrap etc.

Use LED holidays Lights

They use 90% less energy then conventional holiday lights, last much longer AND can help you save money on your
energy bill!

Buy local food for your holiday meals

You can reduce packaging waste and support local family farmers by buying produce, meats, poultry, fish, eggs, herbs, flowers and a wide variety of value added-farm products such as preserves, ciders and wine, cheese and much more!

  • Vancouver Fall Market runs November 5th – December 17th, 2022, Saturdays, 10am – 2pm , 8th and Esther St. Downtown Vancouver
  • Clark County Grown is a place-based buy local brand for farm products grown in Clark County. Find a CSA or Clark County Farmers Market near you!

Shop Small & Local

When you buy from a small business, an actual person does a little happy dance. Etsy filters for US and NW stores and is a great option for online small business shopping

Remember “Re-Gifting” is NOT a dirty word!

Don’t let unwanted gifts go to waste, someone you know can give it a loving home. White Elephant (or Office Gifts) are a great time to put your 50th un-burned candle to use.

Not sure if you should recycle or dispose?

Visit Waste Connections of Washington where you can search the A-Z Directory by item name and they’ll tell you how to recycle or dispose of it.
