March 2023 Newsletter – Physical Wellness
We hope you had a lovely and heart-warming February! Maybe you practiced a new strategy from the Emotional Wellness Toolkit, dressed in red on National Wear Red Day to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease in women, or spread a little kindness on Random Acts of Kindness Day.
A big shoutout to Be:Well member, Chelsea Jacobson, for spreading kindness, raising heart awareness, and encouraging emotional wellness by decorating the ESD 112 breakroom last month with hearts-of-affirmation. They were only going to be up for one week, but we got so many comments about how uplifting they were, that they stayed up all month!

Monthly Wellness Wednesday Walk on March 15
In the spirit of improving our social, physical, mental and emotional health, we will be hosting a Wellness Wednesday Walk every third Wednesday of the month. Meet us in the ESD 112 lobby on Wednesday, March 15th at 3:45pm to take a stroll outside. We plan to walk, rain or shine, so please plan accordingly.
If you aren’t at the ESD 112 Vancouver campus, we welcome you to get a group together and take a walk at your location. And if you take any pics or have any stories, we’d love to know! Send to bewell@esd112.org.
‘Couve Clover Run on March 19
We’re taking the Wellness Walks to the next step (get it?) at the 9th Annual ‘Couve Clover Run on Sunday, March 19! Throw on your green shirt, grab your shamrock accessories, and join us at this family-friendly event where you can walk or run the scenic 1, 3, 7 or 10 mile routes along Officer’s Row, Fort Vancouver and the Columbia Waterfront. It’s not only fun, it’s also for a good cause – the race supports local charities, including the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools. Come and check it out – we’ll see you at the finish line!

Live:Well – Physical Wellness
Physical wellness includes engaging in activities to keep our bodies healthy. This might include movement and exercise, as promoted by the CDC’s Active People, Healthy Nation campaign, like the Wellness Walks or participating in events like the ‘Couve Clover Run. However, it also includes other components like nutrition, healthy habits, metabolism, and being aware of how to take care of your body. Check out the Physical Wellness Toolkit from the National Institute of Health for a variety of resources on all these, and more!
It can be helpful to learn about how your body works and things to keep an eye out for. March is the month to do it, since it’s National Awareness month for just about every part of your body! Check out these websites to learn more:

National Nutrition Month
March is also National Nutrition Month! With so many other things to think about, our nutrition might be the last thing on our minds. But it is still so important to get as much nutritious food as we can to fuel our body for the future. Listed below are some tips, tricks and resources for fitting in nutritional food.
General Tips:
- When at the grocery store, focus on foods on the outer perimeter first. This is where all the nutrient rich and less processed foods are located.
- Avoid shopping on an empty stomach.
- If you are trying to lose weight and eat less food, try using a child sized plate.
- MyPlate is a great online resource for learning about, and planning for, healthy meals. There is also an app and several tools that integrate with home smart devices.
