We caught up with Britt Becker, Clock Hour and Registration extraordinaire, to learn what makes her tick.

“I love working with my cohorts here at ESD 112 along with educators out in the districts we serve.”

~ Britt Becker, Clock Hour and Registration Specialist

Tell us a little bit about your work at ESD 112, Britt.

I oversee the PdEnroller clock hour and registration system which is a system for educators in Washington to earn professional development in order to maintain their Washington certification. I also help our regional districts with clock hour questions and approve clock hour proposals.

I originally began my career at 112 in the HR Department in 2011. Back then, pdEnroller did not exist. Clock hour proposals were approved in Teaching & Learning. In HR, I was responsible for recording clock hours into an antiquated transcript system.

In 2015, pdEnroller was developed as a system to handle the entire clock hour process, from proposal to transcript. At that point, I moved from HR to Teaching & Learning full time and helped with the development of pdEnroller. Today, pdEnroller is used by all the ESDs in the state along with many school districts!

Britt BeckerWhat prompted you to work for ESD 112?

Before my career at ESD 112, I had work experience as an assistant manager of a small credit union in The Dalles, OR, as an assistant in the admissions office at Columbia Gorge Community College, and even as a special education paraeducator in the Lyle School District.

I had worked for ESD 112 in 2007 as a special education paraeducator in the Lyle School District, so I figured I had an in. I moved to Vancouver in 2011 and thought I would like to work for ESD 112 again if they would have me.

How has working for ESD 112 affected you creatively/personally/professionally?

I have found many wonderful friends and coworkers here at the 112. Being the only one in this position, I have had to break out of my shell and do things I would not normally be comfortable doing. My confidence in myself has increased as well as my ability to communicate effectively. Working here has really given me a sense of purpose and belonging.

What are the most fulfilling and most challenging parts of your work at ESD 112?

I love working with my cohorts here at ESD 112 along with educators out in the districts we serve. It is very rewarding when I can help someone who is struggling with clock hours. It can be challenging to inform the educators in our districts about how clock hours work and how to navigate pdEnroller. Another challenge is the constant turnaround at the districts and the continuous need to train users on pdEnroller. Although part of my job is customer service which can be stressful, nearly all of my “customers” are kind and appreciative. I am thankful for them and they are thankful for me. It’s nice to know that ESD 112 is thought of so highly in our region.

If your coworkers wanted to surprise you with a little treat sometime what should it be?

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! It’s one of my food groups!
