Each year, ESD staff votes for one art piece in the Southwest Regional High School Art Show to be purchased by the ESD for display on its main campus. Thank you to the 130 staff members who voted! It was a very tough selection, but Waiting for Inspiration, a charcoal drawing by 10th grader Curtis Smith of Woodland High School, narrowly edged out the competition. Congratulations to Curtis!

The 50th Annual Southwest Washington Regional Art Show was held virtually on March 22 through YouTube, and the winners were not announced beforehand. In addition to announcing the winners, the video showcases some of our region’s student artists and teachers in the places they make (and teach) art. All student exhibitors were invited to submit such videos for the show, and this year 12 students chose to do so. Their videos make the show truly unique and meaningful. Thank you to Allison Klump, Mika Yoshida, Sammy Carroll, Xander Hayes and the rest of the Art Show team for your tireless work to make the 2023 Art Show something special for high school artists and their teachers.

If you missed it on March 22, you can watch the 2023 Art Show video anytime. Visit  youtu.be/Lb5GiU94i4Y for the video. For a limited time, you can also view the entire Virtual Art Gallery on the ESD website at www.esd112.org/artshow.

“Waiting for Inspiration” by Curtis Smith of Woodland High School was the 2023 Staff Choice Award winner.
