Register for this November 5 Lunch and Learn
This introductory workshop examines the history of race and the manifestation of racism. Listen to a discussion about the different levels of racism as an evolving dialectic between belief systems and institutions that have mutated in form from slavery to Jim Crow segregation, to our current system. We will discuss our own personal experiences while thinking of ways to dismantle and unlearn harmful narratives we’ve consciously and unconsciously accepted.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the social construction of race.
- Understand how racism has impacted the lives of various racial groups.
- Examine the different levels of racism.
- Compare and contrast attitudinal and institutional discrimination.
- Understand how race and racism plays a role in the meritocratic ideology that justifies racial inequality in the U.S.
