Major earthquakes may happen anywhere you work, live, or travel in Washington.  In an earthquake, you may only have seconds to protect yourself from possible injuries.

At 10:17 a.m. on October 17, over 1.3 million Washingtonians will participate in the Great Washington Shakeout the largest earthquake drill ever!  The ESD 112 Safety Committee invites you to participate too! We will practice the Drop, Cover, and Hold On drill right at our own desks.  At 10:17 a.m. on October 17, an announcement will be made: “This is the Great ShakeOut, one of the largest earthquake drills ever.”

This is your chance to practice together to prepare ourselves for such an event.   You are encouraged to review the attached recommended earthquake safety actions in preparation for the drill.  If you have difficulty getting safely to the floor on your own, get as low as possible and cover your head and neck with your arms and hands.  If you’re not comfortable participating in the drill, do not feel pressured.  However, we would like all staff to review the attached safety actions to learn how to protect yourself and your loved ones in the event of an earthquake.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the drill or would like more information about earthquake preparedness.

Thank you!
