Inaugural Issue Launches Long-planned Committee Newsletter
We invite you to engage with us each issue by reading educational tidbits, having courageous conversations, and delving into new research in equity matters. We look forward to exploring new topics by introducing community allies and sharing out links to a variety of resources.
Identity Safety
This month, we are examining the topic of identity safety in the context of how a person expresses their identity. We invite you to learn from the new research findings that outline identity safety in the classroom. Experts Dr. Dorothy Steele and Dr. Becki Cohn-Vargas explain how identity safety is crucial towards removing barriers to educational success.
Identities come in all forms.
Another resource digs deeper into how personal and social identities play a role in the classroom. Digging Deep into the Social Justice Standards: Identity gives teachers an outline of how to put together a learning plan to help children navigate confidence in who they are and understand what makes others who they are.
Excerpt from: Digging Deep Into the Social Justice Standards: Identity
“Social Justice Standards are divided into four domains: Identity, Diversity, Justice and Action. Starting with this issue of Teaching Tolerance, PD Café will walk through each domain one at a time to help you understand and apply each to your practice so that students develop the skills they need to reduce prejudice and make their schools and communities a safe place for all.”
