Sara Moore is Administrative Assistant for Mike Nerland, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning.
How long have you worked for ESD 112 and what does your job entail?
I’ve worked at the ESD for over 16 years and serve as Administrative Assistant to Mike Nerland and the Teaching & Learning Division.
What do you like best about your job?
Like many people here, my favorite thing about the ESD is my amazing co-workers! The work our organization does benefits children and our community is also very important to me… I have been able to access many of the services offered by our programs as a parent and now as a foster parent. I love meeting coworkers as a parent and seeing all the amazing work they do first-hand!
Single? Married? Kids? Pets?
I am married to my amazing wife Katie! We have a son, Larsen, who is 17 years old and a senior in high school. We are also a foster family. We love pets and have two dogs, two cats, and two dumbo rats (my favorites).
What do you enjoy doing with your free time?
Free time has been hard to come by lately! We are new foster parents, have a son in his senior year, and are starting a home custom t-shirt business. That all keeps us pretty busy!
When I do have free time, I love traveling, drawing, painting, crafting, reading, and enjoying time with my family. We all love history and visiting historical sites and taking tours. I also garden and enjoy canning for our family. If you are into Game of Thrones, drop by any time and I’ll debate fan theories with you. WARNING – This may be a lengthy conversation. Now that my sleep time is so limited, I also fantasize about taking a nap someday…
If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be?
I have a love of the fantasy genre. I would love to live in Middle Earth or Westeros… Anywhere with dragons.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
Teleportation – so I could travel anywhere instantly at no cost.
If you could speak another language, which would it be and why?
Russian – I have a good friend who speaks Russian and I would love to speak to him in his native language. I’d also love to learn ASL someday… I love watching people sign. It’s so incredible.
What fad do you wish would come back? Which do you feel should stay gone forever?
I would love to see 90’s alternative and grunge music back again. Skinny jeans really need to go away and never come back.
What did you want to be when you were little?
I really wanted to be Drew Barrymore in Firestarter… As backup options, I wanted to be an artist, author, or a teacher.
What is your spirit animal?
Lately I would have to say a kangaroo is my spirit animal!
What’s the song you can’t resist singing along to?
Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd… Don’t judge me people… Also anything by Blind Melon.
Great to see you and your family in the Spotlight, Sara! 🙂
