On July 2, Mike Nerland and Alissa Jolly spent the day traveling up the Gorge visiting REACH students during their summer program in Lyle and Wishram.
REACH is a program within Student and School Success that provides academic support to students and collaborates with local partners to provide exciting enrichment opportunities for students. REACH is funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, and operates after school during the regular school year and our weeks during the summer. The program is available to students at the Lyle School District (grades 3-12) and the Wishram School District (grades K-12) and is staffed by teachers, paraeducators, and parents from those districts.
During their trip, Mike and Alissa visited three different groups of students and had a blast with all of them!
Wishram secondary students learned about kiteboarding from grant partner, Cascadia Adventure Education School.Wishram elementary students participated in an activity with artist Amy Gray from grant partner Arts in Education of the Gorge, where they created models of buildings from their local community with a variety of objects.Dallesport elementary students and Lyle secondary students learned about the science of bubbles with visiting instructor, Lisa Melander.
