KathyWhitlock-familyKathy Whitlock is the Executive Director of Student and School Success in the Teaching and Learning division.

How long have you worked for ESD 112 and what does your job entail?

I am starting my 6th year at ESD 112 as the Executive Director of Student and School Success. I get to work with all departments and collaborate with multiple agencies in order to ensure that the students and staff across our region have equitable opportunities.

What do you like best about your job?

I get the privilege to work with pretty cool…OK…REAL COOL people every day. It is amazing to be a part of this team!

What do you find most challenging about your job?

There are always opportunities to be in multiple places at once!

Single? Married? Kids? Pets?

My husband’s name is Will and my daughter’s name is Reilly. Reilly just turned 18, just graduated and just left home to go to college. I am still processing this information. Maybe the cat (Kitty) or dog (Molly) will help with the transition?

What do you enjoy doing with your free time?

WOW. Great question!

KathyWhitlock_skydiveIf you could master one skill you don’t have right now, what would it be?

I have a huge list of things I would LOVE to be able to do and look forward to learning how to do them all. A goal for this fall is to learn how to lay flooring. So if anyone has any advice…

What fad do you wish would come back? Which do you feel should be gone forever?

I am so far out of the loop, I am on the toll road. There are probably a lot of fads that have come and gone without my noticing. I have an affinity for the ‘mix tape’. Do people still do that? I think it is probably good that ‘hammer pants’ are gone and hope that they never return.

Would you rather live in the city or the woods? Why?

I would like to vacation in the downtown condo but live in the tiny house in the woods. On the weekend it is fun to spend a day walking around, attending whatever event is going on and people watching. But it would be too crowded for me to live that way full time. I also have a dream of being a better gardener than I am now, so that involves a little more space than the city affords. My current gardening style is to just stick to the few things that will grow with little or no help from me.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Any holiday that I get to spend with my family–on a sunny beach–is my favorite.

What was something you learned in the last week?

18 years is not enough preparation time to drop off your child at college!

What did you want to be when you were little?

I was going to be the first woman president or a cake decorator.

What future events are you looking forward to?

I get to go on a vacation over the winter break with my family.
