Thank you to the 133(!) staff members who voted on the finalists for the 2019 Merry Cammack Staff Choice Award. It is always a hard decision, but in the end, the votes overwhelmingly were for “Mom and Me” by Kathryn Morley–a student from the Toutle Lake School District.
“I am thrilled to see ‘Mom & Me’ selected by the staff,” says Art Show Co-coordinator Melissa Burt. “When that piece came in I knew it was special, and I kept it displayed at my desk before the show was hung. To me it represents so well our B-5 work with children and their families here at the ESD–and it was created by a student in one of the small, rural districts that rely so much on our services.”
The marker drawing was also a favorite of the five judges of the art show–though it did not win a Regional Award (which would have disqualified it for Staff Choice)–it was the highest ranked non-Regional Award piece from a small school, garnering it the ESD 112 Small School Award.
“Mom & Me” will be purchased by the ESD to be hung permanently at the main campus after this year’s art show comes down at the end of the month.
