farm-produceIt’s that time again! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and our CSA partner, Millennium Farms is almost ready for the beginning of the summer harvest! Millennium Farms will deliver CSA shares here to the ESD front desk every Tuesday, starting May 31.

Here’s the info on this year’s CSA from Millennium Farms:

Back by popular demand is the 2016 edition of our Pick 6 Summer and Fall CSAs. This summer’s warmer weather is likely to generate  memorable produce! We are offering chicken (and maybe a few duck) eggs this season as an add-on. We may grow meat chickens again for the Fall session.

Millennium Farms’ CSA Programs – No Sprays or GMO!

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, where supporters of the farm subscribe for fresh produce for a pre-determined number of weeks and pre-pay for the subscription. Millennium Farms is pleased to offer CSA shares for the 2016 season, with two important features. (1) The season will be broken into two parts which will each run 15 weeks: Summer 2016 from the weeks of May 31 to September 6, and Fall 2016 from the weeks of September 13 to December 20. (2)Every CSA share will be a custom order – YOU CHOOSE weekly what produce you want to get. We’ll email you that week’s availability list and an email of recipes. Then YOU CHOOSE which six or twelve items you want to eat! Chicken Eggs will be also available as an add-on.

Summer 2016 CSA – During the first 15 weeks, you will receive shares of fresh, seasonal, chemical-free and mostly heirloom produce. Each week a full share will receive over $30 of healthy produce. In the Summer 2016 CSA you will receive dozens of varieties of  heirloom tomatoes and peppers, baby salad greens, baby spinach, baby arugula, green beans, yellow wax beans, carrots, beets, herbs especially including  basil, summer squash, cucumbers, onions, and up to three kinds of potatoes. There will also be fruit: up to 9 different types of peaches, nectarines, apricots and cherries and berries! These will be bagged and made available for your pick up every Tuesday at multiple pick-up points in Clark County. Full, Plus and Half Shares are available, with the Plus Shares (12 choices weekly) receiving twice the amount of the Full Shares (which get 6 weekly choices), and the Half Shares available every other week, for a total of 8 weeks. We will also send you weekly recipes on how we like to use the particular week’s produce, which has been a customer favorite in previous CSAs.

Fall 2016 CSA – During the next 15 weeks, you will also receive shares of fresh, seasonal, chemical-free and mostly heirloom produce, but from Fall crops. As before, each week a full share will receive over $30 of healthy produce. In the Fall 2016 CSA you will receive dozens of varieties of  heirloom potatoes, root vegetables including carrots, beets, parsnips and rutabagas; brussels sprouts; baby salad greens, baby spinach, baby arugula; herbs; up to nine kinds of winter squash, and up to 3 kinds of potatoes. And again, there will be fruit: up to 12 types of apples and pears! These as well will be bagged and made available for your pick up every Tuesday at multiple pick-up points in Clark County. Full, Plus and Half Shares are again available, with the Plus Shares receiving twice the amount of the Full Shares, and the Half Shares available every other week, for a total of 8 weeks. We will again send you weekly recipes.

ABOUT MILLENNIUM FARMS

Millennium Farms has been growing seasonal greens, vegetables and fruit for families, restaurants and institutions for over 20 years. It is a small family farm in the Ridgefield area, north of Vancouver, WA, owned and operated by Michael and Missy Stucky and their family. Michael’s family have centuries of growing experience, as he comes from a long line of Mennonite farmers. Notably, his great-grandfather was one of 10 Mennonite farmers to bring the very first hard red winter wheat to the U.S. in 1874, the grain from which most of our bread is made. Millennium Farms has always used sustainable growing practices, uses no chemical sprays or fertilizers, and will never use GMO seed – in fact a majority of what they provide comes from heirloom varieties. They also have operated a nursery for over 20 years, offering many of the same plant starts they use for themselves in the field.
