Personnel-medium

This year we have made changes to the work calendar that are intended to give employees flexibility to work or take vacation between Christmas and New Year’s. Instead of closing and forcing employees to take leave, or staying open and forcing some employees to work, the ESD will be closed to the public between Christmas and New Year’s.  Answers to frequently asked questions about what this means are below and a copy of the 2016-17 calendar is available here.

What days will the ESD be closed to the public?

The days between Christmas and New Year’s not scheduled as holidays: December 28, 29 and 30.

What does “closed to the public” mean?

  • The main office and conference center doors will be locked. Entry to the building will be through the doors that have key pads.
  • There will be no reception or switchboard coverage.
  • Department coverage is not required, unless it is a program necessity.

How will I know if I am “required” to work those days?

Talk with your administrator or program manager to determine the coverage needs for your department or program. As with any request for vacation leave, you will need to have prior approval from your administrator or program manager to take the days off.

Can I use my vacation?

Employees must use vacation leave to cover the days.

Can I take these days unpaid?

No. If you do not have sufficient vacation accrual to cover the time, you may use two personal days for some of the time, providing you have a sick leave balance, and the request is approved by your administrator or program manager.

Can I use comp time?

Yes, you may use comp time provided you have accrued comp time with your administrator or program manager’s approval.
