An estimated 38 percent of Americans are eligible to give blood, but of those, less than 10 percent actually donate each year. If you are healthy and eligible, please come out to donate. Most donations take about an hour, so book your appointment, roll up your sleeve and become a part of the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross.

If you don’t know if you’re eligible, show up to find out. Every presenting donor will receive a Freshii gift card, even if you’re deemed ineligible! As a bonus, one lucky high school student will receive scholarship funds.

Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
