Katherine Livick is an Integrated Learning Coach for Student & School Success.

Katherine with her husband, Erick, and son, Roger looking very hip.

How long have you worked for ESD 112 and what does your job entail?

After 15 years in the classroom, I started here in 2014 as the Professional Development Manager for Digital Learning. Since then my job has evolved quite a bit. I still do some technology coaching and consulting as well as some internal training, but my job mostly consists of AESD projects: coordinating the statewide Inclusionary Practices Project and working as the regional coordinator for Computer Science.

What do you like best about your job?

I love my wonderful co-workers in SASS. I love the variety and the flexibility of this job. There’s always something new to learn!

What do you find most challenging about your job?

There’s always something new to learn! 😀 No, seriously, I find myself juggling a lot of tasks with different deadlines, which is challenging for me.

What do you consider to be your greatest on-the-job skill or asset?

I’ve found that my communication skills come into play absolutely everywhere!

Single? Married? Kids? Pets?

I’ve been married to my husband Erick for almost 25 years and we have a 9-year old son (Roger) and a 3-year old floofbucket/Great Pyrenees (Melody).

What do you enjoy doing with your free time?

We spend a lot of time with family, as my husband’s parents and mine are friends (convenient)! I have more hobbies and interests than normal humans should have, but mainly I concentrate on fussing over my 80+ houseplants, playing music with the Vancouver Community Concert band and elsewhere, making art, reading, and being the best Star Trek nerd I can be. Ask me about Discovery and Picard. I dare you.

If your coworkers wanted to surprise you with a little treat sometime what should it be?

I love good coffee, high-quality dark chocolate and trips to Breitenbush 😀

What is something that no one would guess about you if they just met you?

I am really intensely weird (like, even weirder than you’d notice right away) and accepting of other people’s weirdness.

If you could master one skill you don’t have right now, what would it be?

The ability to concentrate on a task at will, rather than at random intervals that usually happen late at night when I ought to be sleeping.

If you could time travel, would you go to the past or the future and why?

The past. There are a LOT of bands I need to see. Like A LOT.

If you could play one instrument you aren’t able to now, what would it be and why?

Mandolin, because that would imply that I am not as terrible at guitar as I currently am.

Would you rather live in the city or the woods? Why?

The woods, but with good access to the city. Perhaps by zeppelin or teleporter. I grew up on five acres of forest and love being outside, but I also really like having other people make me really good coffee and food.

What did you want to be when you were little?

John Belushi. I am not kidding. I’ve wanted to be an SNL cast member since I was 5 years old sneaking out of bed to watch the show. I still kind of want to. Runner-up: Stevie Nicks, but…healthier.

What’s the song you can’t resist singing along to?

Literally all of them. Apologies to anyone who sits near my cube.

What fad do you wish would come back? Which do you feel should stay gone forever?

Returning fads: 60s fashion, both mod and hippie, including the idea that you should dress up for air travel (this assumes that air travel is more like it was in the 60s instead of the nightmare it is now). Go away forever:  Cold shoulder tops. I’m sorry, you all look fine in them but I look like a doofus. I get sad when I see a perfectly normal top on the rack and then pick it up and it has EXTRA HOLES.
